Michael Pepper is Director and Principal of MAP Datum Limited. Michael is a graduate of the University of Leicester and holds a Master of Science Degree in Security Management. An online copy of his research dissertation (which concerns violence against staff in a penal environment) can be accessed by sending an email request. He also holds the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and Physical Security Professional (PSP) designations from ASIS International. He moved to New Zealand from Northern Ireland in March 2001 to take up employment as Security Manager at a major entertainment complex in Auckland CBD. He became a New Zealand citizen in 2004.

With over 22 years management and security experience in the Northern Ireland Prison Service, he has held a range of management positions in maximum security prisons as well as within NIPS Headquarters. He has served on a number of UK government working groups with interests in Perimeter Detection, CCTV, Biometrics and Integrated Control Room Systems. Internationally, he has attended security conferences in Australia, Spain, Canada and the United States. He is a former Chairman of the New Zealand Chapter of ASIS International and is the current ASIS Regional Vice President for Region 39; a member of the Security Training Advisory Board (SITAB); and the Asia Pacific member of the International Advisory Board of the International Foundation for Protection Officers. He is a qualified workplace assessor and assessment moderator.

Michael is an experienced security risk management consultant specialising in the training of security managers in the application of security technology based on the risks to the business and the operational requirement; not on any pre-conceived idea that there is a "must have" or "one size fits all" solution to a security problem.

In addition to his security skills, Michael has been building and maintaining low cost websites for small businesses for over eight years, both in the United Kingdom and New Zealand.
